During today’s Xbox Developer Direct, Square Enix made a surprise appearance to pull back the curtains on Visions of Mana, the franchise’s first new main game in 15 years. Square Enix also revealed that Visions of Mana will be coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC this summer.

Executive producer Masaru Oyamada discussed the history of the franchise, noting that there have been 17 entries throughout its 30-year existence. He also notes that what is today the Mana series actually began as Final Fantasy Adventure in 1991.

Mana series creator Koichi Ishii also joined this segment of the show to talk about how he’s overseen the team in their work and implementation of taking what were originally pixelated monsters and turning them into the 3D monsters that players will fight in the game.

Notably, Visions of Mana is the first Mana game to come to Xbox. Oyamada expressed Square Enix’s enthusiasm for this first for the series as he elaborated on its real-time action combat. This real-time action combat is what originally separated Final Fantasy Adventure from the strictly turn-based Final Fantasy series at the time.

Mana’s combat visions still look great, as does its vibrant world. Unfortunately, it’s still a few months away before PlayStation, Xbox, and PC players can play it because it’s coming out this summer.

While you wait for its release, check out the Visions of Mana announcement trailer from The Game Awards 2023 last month.
