from Kemco Top Gear series, known as Top Running Man in Japan, it’s an absolute legend for anyone who grew up there brazil. Although I’m not exactly sure why it was converted such a big hit here and not almost Like anywhere else it’s truly fascinating, and for a whole generation of gamers who got their fill of 16-bit goodness back in the day, there’s nothing quite like these games. They are so memorable that currency Developers of the day are often inspired to develop their own witty racers based on Top Gear; is the case of Aquiris Game Studios’ excellent Horizon Chase and Slipstream, by Ansdor, to name a few. As a Super Nintendo kid, I unfortunately never owned any of the three Top Gear carts, but I distinctly remember a vivid competitive scene at my local rental shop. Even if it was month of a guy from Super Mario Kart, I never he passed up the chance to have a friendly combat with friends from time to time. QByte Interactive has been showing off the Top Racer Collection at a number of events for a couple of years, and now it’s finally out. In order to avoid the demands of a certain TV show, they chose to stick with the original Japanese title, but everything else about it’s exactly like you will remember, to the first one games sticky first stage music and the little Top Racer sound effects 3000.

Everyone of the three games comes with a set of bonus materials in the form of a manual, box and cart label explorationseverything from the original Japanese releases to Super Famicom, that is, clean and a little disappointing, since the American painting for them is quite iconic. But its omission is understandable, given the need to redact the name to avoid any litigation. The games themselves work as well as can be expected. They all make use of the same emulation engine, Bleem of all things! Although I it should preferred to see less load for almost every screen when you navigate through the collection menus, ROMs are exactly like you remember they. On the other hand, there is online multiplayer! Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a match during the review period, but I’m sure that will change once the Top Racer collection hits the wild. The idea of playing such nostalgic racers online would have been considered crazy back in the day, but it’s something this is possible now, and I am sure that those who seek to revive their glory days with friends who may not be by their side couch playing will get a kick out of it.
